sometimes, beautiful things are brought about accidentally

(well, i'm not so sure if i stated it right.. haha.. basta ang ibig ko sabihin, minsan may mga magandang bagay na nakukuha natin accidentally)

I got this wonderful idea from our paperweight-making project in our chemistry class.. if you'd look at my album CHEMISTRY CLASS, you'll see the pictures of OUR (3rd year Psych) MASTERPIECES.. so here goes the story of the masterpieces.

first, we prepared our molds, applied petroleum jelly on its surface, plus the stuff (old stuff, dried leaves, coins, papers, sticks, etc.. or in layman's term "basura" haha.. [joke]) that we wanted to preserve in the paperweight..

next, our professor (Sir Laurice!) poured the resin mix- half full on the mold. we waited for a few minutes until the first layer was set.

when the first layer was set, we decorated it according to our preference.. then afterwards, the next layer was poured upon it.

another few minutes of waiting, then, VOILA!! we had our finish product!

well this is the exciting part of it (at least for us).. my mold was a heart-shaped plastic that was of typical thickness as that of a plastic cup.. we thought that it wouldnt work because it might melt in the process.. and yes, it almost melted while we were waiting for the first layer to set!!! it was like boiling and it turned purple-ish (instead of pink-ish).. we were all saying "HALA,. HALA.." -with the worried tones.. whew! but when we observed that it was done setting, we had seen an ACCIDENTAL WORK OF ART..

i wanted to relate this to the accidental discovery of penicillin.. its just too AMAZING!

Special thanks: marthie for the pictures, The Old Spaghetti House for "our" dinner and my classmates for your moral support during the meeting de avance..
